You work with dozens of brilliant colleagues, all with amazing ideas about how technology might revolutionize your organization. You also want to sleep sometimes. How do you choose what to work on?  How do you prioritize?  How do you say no to the chief curator? 

At Getty, we’ve spent the past three years building a process to help us answer these questions and provide a framework for digital decision-making. We’d like to share with you the Digital Governance process we’ve put in place, what we’ve learned, and how we moved (at least closer) to transparent, inclusive, collaborative decision-making, and how we continue to evolve that process as organizational needs, technologies, and expectations evolve.  Also—AI governance! 

David Newbury and Britt Scholnick will share how we developed the framework, both from a strategic and practical level, how we’ve iterated over the past 18 months, and where we expect it to change in the future. We’ll discuss balancing IT and Digital needs, the value of discovery processes, how we consider capacity planning, and the importance of happy hours to team building.  And we’ll share how governance can function not (only) as a gatekeeping mechanism, but as a living system that supports sustainability, transparency, and builds institutional resilience.
